Mathews Memorial Airport

 

Mathews Memorial Airport, located on W. South Street (Cedar Valley Road) just Southwest of Tipton, is Tipton's municipal airport. The facility caters to all small aircraft needs, including on-site 24 hour self service fueling, a 3000-foot concrete runway, passenger terminal and lounge, public telephone, and restrooms. The City of Tipton has appointed an official committee to oversee airport operations. That committee consists of:

Jim Rohlf, Mike Moes, Klay Johnson, Ed Melecker, Timm Wynkoop, Jerry Goldsmith, Dave Kruse, Sandy Gleaves and Max Coppess.

 UPCOMING EVENTS:

*Aviation Camp 2011 is scheduled for August 2011!*

8am-12pm

Aviation Camp will be held August 20, 2011. There is no fee thanks to the generous contribution of local volunteers and the Iowa Aviation Promotion Group. Visit them at www.flyiowa.org.

Educational classes for area youth will be held with the Young Eagles. Airplance rides will also be available during the camp. Visit the Young Eagles website at www.youngeagles.org for more information.

*Hanger space is available in the community hanger at the Tipton airport, contact the airport manager Jim Rohlf at 563-357-0144

*Memorial funds for fellow pilot Don Armstrong have been used to purchase a picnic table to be placed in front of the terminal. The picnic table can be used by the public for viewing airport activities.

*A new upgraded runway and taxiway lights have been installed.

*On March 19, 2009, the FAA accepted Mathews Memorial Airport into the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). This will allow Mathews Memorial Airport to be eligible for federal funding for improvements.
