The municipal government of Tipton consists of a Mayor, a five-member City Council, and a City Manager. City Hall is located at 407 Lynn Street and houses the offices of City Manager, City Clerk, Finance Officer, Police Department, Electric Superintendent, Gas Superintendent, Planning & Zoning Director, and Utility Billing. The City Council Chambers are located on the second floor, and wheelchair access is available upon request.

City Council meetings are held on the first and third Mondays of each month at 5:30pm. Special meetings are sometimes called for and are held on an as-needed basis. Tentative City Council agendas are posted the Friday before the meeting both online and on the door of City Hall. Agendas may be changed up to 24 hours before the start of the meeting.
