The seven-member Tipton Development Commission, comprised of two Tipton City Councilors, two representatives from the Tipton Chamber of Commerce and Tipton Economic Development Corporation (TEDCO), and one at-large member, was established in 2006 to facilitate cooperation between the entities and to further the progress of Tipton as a thriving business community with a desirable quality of life.

Tipton's first-ever Community Development Director, Travis Alden, came aboard in August of 2006 to carry out the priorities and initiatives of the Commission, as well as facilitate further community-enhancing programs and events.

Travis's first tasks included promotion of Tipton as a great place to live and do business (including design of this website), taking steps toward a downtown revitalization project, and researching grants and other funding sources to aid in Tipton's community development efforts.

The newest member of the community development team is Scott Sanborn. Many eastern Iowans remember watching Scott anchor and report the news on KCRG TV-9, the ABC affiliate in Cedar Rapids. In his new role as Tipton's Community Development Director, Scott is seeking input from community leaders, business owners, historical preservationists, residents, and governmental officials to devise a comprehensive marketing plan for the city and explore opportunities for growth.

The future looks bright for Tipton, and the City's Community Development leaders are working hard to bring continued prosperity to the community.
