The Cedar County Historical Society presents “2014 A Day on the Prairie” Saturday, September 13th from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. at the Cedar County Historical Museum and Prairie Village. Cedar County history comes alive on the grounds. Take a step back in time and see how your ancestors lived. There will be classes held in the “Bed Bug School”, Ma and Pa will be at home in the Fraseur Log Cabin, the blacksmith will working over the forge, Cook’s Hardware and Tin Shop will be open for visitors, the South Bethel Church will host the old fashioned spelling bee for students in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, starting at 10:30 A.M. with cash prizes to the winners. Children must register to participate, simply call 563-886-2899 or stop in the museum before September 4th.

Citizens of the village wander the grounds displaying and teaching crafts, playing music, cooking over an open fire, threshing done the old way, shelling corn, making rope, weaving, quilting,  spinning yarn, and telling stories in their prairie costumes.

This is a learning experience for children of all ages. Free will donations will be accepted, but there is no charge so bring the whole family. Food and beverages will be available on the grounds.

There will be lots to see in the museum and on the grounds. Check out the old Lincoln Highway marker, the steel wheeled tractor, the wooden wagon, and the sawmill. Don’t forget to bring your camera.
