ELECTRIC APPRENTICE LINE MECHANIC or JOURNEYMAN LINE MECHANIC

Starting August 14, 2026, the City of Tipton Electric Department will be accepting applications for an Apprentice Line Mechanic or a Journeyman Line Mechanic position.  A class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement (Class A will be required after 6 months) and a high school diploma required.
This position will include working around voltages from 8 volts DC to 12,500 volts AC, working at heights up to 75 feet, and in an underground environment with transformers and enclosures.  The position will also require: learning to operate the diesel generation plant; the ability to read utility meters; operation of skid loader, trencher, backhoe, bucket truck, digger derrick and other related equipment to do underground and overhead electric work; completion of locates and service orders; to display professional and courteous behavior with the public, vendors and all co-workers.  This position will be required to join the department’s on-call rotation.
Candidate with previous line mechanic work, along with recent graduates of an approved Line Mechanic apprenticeship program are preferred.
Following the application and interview process the Electric Department will extend an offer to a successful applicant. The offer will be conditional, based on the applicant passing a physical examination, drug test and criminal background check.  Pursuant to Iowa Law, preference will be given to any applicant of Veteran status.

EMS Job Announcement

The City of Tipton is seeking qualified applicants for part time EMS providers at the EMT, AEMT and Paramedic certification level with at least one year of experience. The Tipton Ambulance Service operates two ambulances runs an average of 600 calls per year using a hybrid staffing approach. Applicants must be comfortable working with minimal supervision in stressful environments and willing to function in administrative and educational functions when not on calls.
Preferred applicants should seek to be expanding their knowledge as a EMS provider in a rural setting and have an interest in engaging with the community through public outreach and education.
