GAS DEPARTMENT
 
The City of Tipton purchases natural gas from Clayton Energy located in Omaha.  Northern Natural Gas transports the gas, and the city takes ownership at pooling points located in Kansas City (Demarc) and northern Iowa (Ventura).  The City of Tipton pays for pipeline transportation from those points to the border station north of town.  From the border station the gas enters the city's distribution system, pressures are reduced, and meters measure the gas used at the border station.  Meters also measure gas consumed at each residential and commercial site that use natural gas.

The city assumes a great deal of expense maintaining the gas distribution lines and meters throughout the city and pays for the natural gas itself.
